Homes Not Spikes: After Protests, UK Business Decides Treating the Homeless Like Pigeons Probably Won’t Solve Homelessness

A supermarket giant in the U.K has removed metal spikes they erected outside to deter rough sleepers, or homeless campers, and other “anti-social behavior” after many protested that the latest piece of “defensive urban architecture” treats the rising number of homeless as pigeons, rats, vermin and a problem to be dispensed with. Left Unityactions against the spikes, including an online campaign, a Change.org petition and a nighttime raid to pour concrete on them, led Tesco to remove them, though similar spikes remain outside some luxury apartments. Critics note there are at least 700,000 empty homes in the country. The logical question: Why is anyone homeless?
