“Women’s deaths add to concerns about Georgia prison doctor”

Women’s deaths add to concerns about Georgia prison doctor

For nearly a decade, a succession of inmates at one of the largest women’s prisons in Georgia has suffered agonizing deaths, some going days, weeks and even months before receiving treatment that might have saved or prolonged their lives, an Atlanta Journal-Constitution investigation has found:

Those deaths and others paint a bleak picture of the medical treatment for inmates at Pulaski State Prison in Hawkinsville. All were under the care of Dr. Yvon Nazaire, raising fresh questions about the state’s decision to hire him as the prison’s medical director despite a well-documented history of negligence and patient deaths in New York.

A Woman in India Has Been Beheaded by Mob Who Accused Her of Being a Witch

A 63-year-old woman in India was beheaded Monday after a mob of more than 200 people accused her of witchcraft.

The incident took place at a village in the eastern state of Assam, Indian broadcaster NDTV reported. Seven people have been arrested for the lynching, which occurred after the woman was dragged out of her house and attacked.

According to Samad Hussain, the village’s additional superintendent of police, a younger woman named Anima Ronghanti who “claims to be a goddess” asked people to gather at a local temple. She then told the crowd that 63-year-old Poni Orang, a mother of five and member of the Adivasi tribe, was a witch who would bring bad luck to the village.

“The mob rushed into Orang’s house and dragged her out, took her to a nearby stream, almost stripped her naked and beheaded her in broad daylight,” Hussain said.

Ashley Madison, dating website for married people, sues South Korea after being blocked

Financial Post

TORONTO — A dating website for married people seeking affairs is suing the government of South Korea after being blocked in that country over what it says are false allegations of illegal activity.

Ashley Madison filed the suit in federal court Wednesday through its Canadian parent company, Avid Life Media.

In its statement of claim, the company accuses the South Korean government of engaging in “uncompetitive acts” by unfairly banning the website while allowing local businesses to operate similar ones.

It alleges the effects of that decision trickle down to Canada, limiting Ashley Madison’s success among Korean-Canadians and other Asian-Canadians and reducing overall competition in the social media market.

The Toronto-based company is seeking an unspecified amount for loss of revenue and lost profits, as well as general damages for uncompetitive conduct.
